Data-Driven Office Strategies with Vertis Commutes

Overview

Over the past few years, remote and hybrid work models have become the norm for many companies. As these companies reconsider the role of the office and develop forward-looking strategies, the effect of commutes on employee satisfaction and office utilization is a key consideration. Vertis Commutes enables customers to easily incorporate workforce commute data into their decision making.

Calculating Commutes

To calculate commutes in Vertis, customers simply upload workforce and office datasets, and click a button. In minutes, we are able to calculate commutes between employee locations and offices and automatically generate a custom interactive report featuring visualizations of commute times, distances, and modes across your workforce.

Customers are able to apply filters based on the attributes included in the underlying workforce and office datasets, and adjust commute settings such as maximum commute radius. For example, you can filter your workforce data to focus on your hybrid and on-site employees in New York City, and set commutes to exclude driving as a commute mode with a maximum commute radius of 45 mins.

Comparing Scenarios

Our customers often use Vertis to compare the potential impacts of different scenarios on their commuters. A common example we see is customers choosing between multiple potential office locations. In these cases, our customers use Vertis to analyze their workers’ commutes for each prospective office location so that they can incorporate that data into their decision.

Customers also use Vertis to evaluate the impact of adding additional office space to better serve their employees. For instance, instead of having one office in the San Francisco Bay Area with long average commute times, a customer might evaluate scenarios that include adding additional office space closer to where employees live so that commute times are reduced for on-site and hybrid workers.

Conclusion

For many companies, there are still many questions about what the future holds when it comes to the role of offices in the context of remote work. These questions are best addressed with data, which is why we build solutions that help our customers bring together the right data to make better strategic decisions.
